Melbourne India Postgraduate Program (MIPP)

The Melbourne-India Postgraduate Program (MIPP) provides graduate researchers with the opportunity to work with joint supervision of leading academics from the University of Melbourne and one of the program’s Indian partners.

The program offers PhD living stipend and fee remission scholarships and associated support for researcher exchanges and cooperation.

By enabling students from India and Australia to undertake jointly developed research of the highest quality, the program provides them with opportunity to contribute to the development of educational, cultural and industry links between both countries. The students get access to research facilities and expertise at both institutions. In addition, all the participating students join as a member of exclusive MIPP cohort at University of Melbourne and receive mentoring from staff as well a wide network of IIT alumni group settled in Victoria.

Students come from a variety of backgrounds and include:

  1. PhD students previously educated in IISc, IITK, IITM and IITKgp and enrolled at the University of Melbourne.
  2. Australian and international PhD students enrolled at the University of Melbourne and co-supervised by staff at IISc, IITK, IITM and IITKgp.
  3. PhD students enrolled at IISc, IITK, IITM and IITKgp and co-supervised by University of Melbourne staff.

Projects may involve collaboration with industry, government and non-government organisations. It is expected that some students and researchers will set up startups in collaboration with Australian and Indian counterparts and tap into the exciting opportunities that exist in both the Indian and Australian markets. By doing so, the program’s activities will benefit India and Australia but will also address shared global challenges in areas of environmental, societal and technological need.
